We'll be in Kildare on April 9, and celebrating mass in the Cathedral there. The feast of St. Brigid is coming up on February 1 (celebrated in Ireland, not in the United States), and here's a brief article on how they plan to observe it in Kildare!

We'll be flying on USAirways - and it is a long trip of course, so if you aren't already a Dividend Miles member, you may wish to take a few minutes to fill out the form here and join!
If you went to Italy with us in 2011, that was also on USAirways, so maybe you already have your membership number (and if you don't know where it is, now is a good time to locate it!). You won't actually need to give anyone your Dividend Miles number until you check in at the airport- then you can get it associated with your flights so you'll get the full credit for the miles. And here's a bonus link- that won't be helpful for another month or so yet-- but if you are wondering what movies will be shown in-flight, this page will eventually post the April selections! Trying to decide which suitcase to pack for Ireland? Step number one: please note that the word is "suitcase", not "suitcases". Here are some quotes from our travel company that should help guide you:
Unless your bag is too heavy, or too big. Here is a link to USAirways Baggage policies- please refer to the section on transatlantic flights. In summary: your checked bag can weigh up to (but not over) 50 pounds, and its overall dimensions (length+height+width) must be less than 62 inches. (E.g., a bag that is 27 inches long and 21 inches wide and 12 inches high = 60 inches). Your carry-on bag (link to info here) can be up to 45 inches and 40 pounds- BUT PLEASE REMEMBER that YOU are responsible for carrying your own carry-on! You may also bring one other personal item (purse, briefcase) on board. Our checked bag- once we get it to the airport in the first place- will be wrangled in and out of our motor coach, and to and from our rooms for us (and we have pre-paid the tips!)! You might see this triple spiral carved into the rocks on one of our first stops after arrival - it is an ancient symbol of 'threes' of several kinds. And three is the number of available seats that remain on our airplane!! Actually, TWO is the magic number: we currently have 28 registered pilgrims, with February 1 being the very last possible date for anyone to register. It would be nice if we could meet as a group in February- an informal chance to get to meet each other. I was actually considering Friday evening, February 1- since that is the feast of St. Brigid of Kildaire! What do you think? Please comment below or email Cathy with your yes or no. But please do add this date to your calendar: Sunday, March 17, 12:45-1:45pm. It is, conveniently, the feast of St. Patrick (so I believe we shall have scones and soda bread at the meeting), and also a good time for you to receive your travel packets (e-tickets, luggage tags, tote bag, etc.) and cover those last minute questions and reminders. As of now, we are scheduled for the Meeting Room (near the main receptionist's desk), and it is timed so that you can come over after the 11:30am Mass, if you wish. |
