Detail from the Book of Kells
Only five months from now, we will be well into our pilgrimage experience! So far, we have twenty-four pilgrims signed up, with a half-dozen spaces still available. (good progress!)
Although we will not be doing a lot of walking every day, I would encourage you to find some regular opportunities this Winter to walk and use the stairs so that when April comes, you'll be feeling great, not winded or sore. And if you do not already have a reliable pair of walking shoes, now is the time to invest in some. My personal criteria are that they will give my feet and ankles good support without being TOO heavy, and that they are reasonably water-proof.
So, if you already have a trusty pair, please pull them out and make sure they are still in good shape (wear them around for a day)- I had a great pair that got so old that the soles started to disintegrate, but not until I started walking around in them! And if you need to buy a new pair, please be sure to break them in BEFORE we land in Ireland- you wouldn't want blisters putting a crimp in your style, would you?
